Dear Parents of Prospective Ridgewalkers,

Ridgewalkers is a hiking club, open only to Desert Vista 5th Graders. The club meets the first and third Wednesdays of each month after school, from 2:45-3:45pm, for physical conditioning and to learn hiking etiquette, orienteering and desert survival skills. In addition to mandatory meetings/practices, six hikes are scheduled for the weekends of 10/27, 11/29-12/1, 1/19/08, 2/16/08, 4/4-5/08 and 5/13-17/08. The club will be limited to 20 students. Students must be in good standing academically and behaviorally. A grade average of 70% or above must be maintained to be part of the club.

TRYOUTS for the 5th grade Ridgewalkers will be held after school from

Wednesday, September 12

Wednesday, September 19 - this will be a hike to Silly Mountain from 3-6pm.

Students must come to all three workouts prior to selection in the club. Please make sure the children come prepared with appropriate shoes to workout. We will be jogging, running, and exercising (ie. Push-ups, sit-ups, jumping jacks, etc.) A water bottle is highly recommended! In addition to tryouts, each child will be requried to turn in one page report telling why they would like to be in Ridgewalkers. This report is due by our last tryout date Wednesday, September 19th.

For our last Wednesday tryout we will be hiking to Silly Mountain. This means that our tryout will go longer this day. All students trying out will need to be picked up by their parents at Desert Vista at 6:00pm on Wednesday the 19th.

If your child is selected for the club, there will be a mandatory meeting for all parents on Wednesday evening, September 26th, from 6:30pm-7:30pm in the Multi-purpose Room. We will further explain club requirements and expectations at the parent meeting. Please return the bottom section of this paper to Ms. Earl or Mrs. Frantz by Tuesday, September 4th.
