WELCOME
BACK TO ANOTHER EXCITING YEAR OF PERFORMING IN THE Desert Vista
BAND!!
I LOOK FORWARD TO GREETING ALL OF YOU (parents & band members),
AND INTRODUCING YOU TO THE BEGINNING OF A FUN, AND VERY AMBITIOUS
YEAR OF PERFORMANCES. AS ALWAYS, WE HAVE A GREAT TIME EXPERIENCING
THE POWER OF MUSIC. NOT ONLY BY LISTENING, BUT BY PLAYING THE MUSIC
AND BECOMING PART OF IT OURSELVES. I GUARANTEE EVERY BAND MEMBER
WILL EXPERIENCE THE MAGIC OF MUSIC CONTINGENT UPON THE DEDICATION
AND COMMITMENT EACH INDIVIDUAL APPLIES.
EACH
BAND MEMBER WILL RECEIVE A BAND SYLLABUS WHICH OUTLINES THE EXPECTATIONS
OF A DVES MUSICIAN WITH AN "EXPECTATIONS ACKNOWLEDGEMENT"
with a student/parent signature. THE SYLLABUS ALSO LISTS SUPPLIES,
CONCERT DATES AND IMPORTANT PROCEDURES THAT CAN ANSWER MANY OF YOUR
QUESTIONS.

Class
Description
This course covers National Standards for Instrumental Music levels
of accomplishment. We stress the intrinsic values of performance,
and have fun covering challenging music!. In addition to intense
playing during rehearsal, we devote time to Music Theory, along
with written assignments. All of this helps achieve our ultimate
goal of attaining the highest level of performance, while experiencing
the most important "joy" of playing.

Respect fellow classmates,and Director .
Practice at home, bringing a prepared part to rehearsal
Come to rehearsal with your instrument in playing condition (Brass:
valves, and slides lubricated/Woodwinds: 1 good reed, with 2 spares.
Take special care on how you assemble and handle your "expensive"
instrument during rehearsal, especially respecting fellow students
and their delicate instruments.
Be polite, friendly and cooperative during rehearsal.

Homework Policy
There
are weekly practice assignments. Band students are expected to practice
a MINIMUM of 2 hrs. per week.
Rehearsal
Procedures
1.
Be in your seat prepared (Instrument ready) within 3 minutes upon
entering the band room. Be prepared for the music order"WARMUPS"
written on the front board.
2. REHEARSAL BEGINS WHEN I STAND IN FRONT OF THE ENSEMBLE. At this
time I ask that you not talk or play. Focus on listening to instructions.
3. Dismissal: I will give ample time to put your instrument away.
After properly storing your instrument return to your seat. CHECK
YOUR STAND AND CHAIR. I will dismiss after the bell if the room
is in order.
We have some business to take care of before actually playing, and
this goes quickly once everyone understands the routine. ***NO FOOD,
GUM OR DRINKS (except water) are allowed in the band room.
