Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome back to a new and exciting school year! This letter is to inform you of some of our classroom procedures. The second grade team will be working closely together to provide a positive educational experience for your child. We encourage you to join us in our efforts. We not only appreciate parent involvement, but find it a key to any child's success.

Reading/Language Arts (Literacy Block) will be instructed in small groups within your child's homeroom. Groups will be determined by a reading/phonics inventory and teacher recommendations. A diagnostic tool will be used to determine Math placement. All students will be grouped according to the skills they have mastered. Additionally, if your child does not pass a test, the test will be stamped "sign and return". The test must be signed in order to give your child the opportunity of a make up test.

Please be aware that we will start Spelling on Sugust 20th. Spelling lists will be setn home each Monday. Spelling tests will be given the last day of each week. Homework Folders will begin on August 20th. They will also be sent home on Monday and should be turned in every Friday. Please help your child take responsibility for their work. please check their papers nightly so we can keep you informed and, in turn, better serve your child.
