Hello DVES Families, and Welcome to December!

We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoyed time with family and friends. We have a very busy and exciting month ahead at Desert Vista, filled with academics, performances, celebrations, and special events. Please take a moment to review the important dates below so your family is prepared for everything coming up.

🏀 Basketball Games (Grades 3–5)
Our 3rd–5th grade basketball teams will have games on:
  • December 3, 4, 9
All games begin at 4:00 p.m. at CCJH.
Game schedules were sent home previously and are attached again in this newsletter.

🎭 Alice in Wonderland Play
Students in Kinder, 1st, 4th, and 5th grades have been invited to attend a performance of Alice in Wonderland on Friday, December 5. This is a live play put on by AJUSD theatre students at the PAC.

Please look for permission slips coming home early this week.

📚 Battle of the Books
Our first Battle of the Books competition will take place Friday during the school day. Good luck to all of our readers!

🏆 Board Meeting Recognitions — Tuesday, December 9
At the Tuesday, December 9 AJUSD Board Meeting, we will proudly recognize:
  • Two first graders
  • Outstanding staff members
  • One dedicated volunteer
We look forward to celebrating these amazing members of our DVES community!

🕒 Early Release – Wednesday, December 10
Wednesday, December 10, is an early release day at 1:35 p.m.

PTO is tentatively planning an Evening with Santa that same day from 5:00–7:00 p.m. Stay tuned for confirmation!

📝 Benchmark Testing (Grades 3–5)
Benchmark assessments for 3rd–5th grade students will take place the week of December 8. Please help students be rested and ready.

🎻 Winter Concerts & Performances
  • Orchestra Concert – December 16 at 6:00 p.m.
  • Schoolwide Music Showcase – December 17 starting at 5:00 p.m. at the PAC
  • This year’s showcase will be split into two parts to help with parking and seating.
  • More information will be shared soon regarding times and grade-level assignments.

📅 End of the Quarter
  • Thursday, December 18 is the last day of the quarter and an early release day.
  • Students will return after Winter Break on Tuesday, January 6.
